Great news from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A. Inc., earlier this week: the world’s top automaker just wrapped up a terrific September sales period. Records were broken on a couple of fronts, including the Lexus brand setting a September sales record, and all three of the company’s top entities – TMS, the Toyota Division, and the Lexus brand – posting record-setting light truck sales. Total TMS September ’16 sales reached 197,260 units, a 1.5% year-over-year (YOY) increase from 2015. Also up 1.5% was TMS’ daily selling rate. As for the Toyota Division, its September ’16 sales were 171,459 units, a 1.4% YOY increase and a 1.4% increase in daily selling rate.
So which cars led the September charge? There are plenty of plaudits to go around, starting with the Toyota RAV4, whose sales increased by 8.6% -- good enough for a new year-to-date sales record. - - Toyota Highlander: up 21.3%, achieves best-ever September and sets year-to-date sales record
- -Toyota 4Runner: sales up almost 21%
- -Toyota Land Cruiser: kept rolling, after a phenomenal August ’16 increase of 171%
Toyota sedans and trucks got in on the action too. 30,707 Toyota Camry units were sold in September, and Toyota Tacoma sales were up 35.4%, with 15,723 units sold.
