Earlier this month, Toyota invited some of the world's expert automotive journalists to check out their most recent progress in hybrid technologies at the brand's Aisin facility. Japanese journalists were given the opportunity to drive the American Camry Hybrid, Europeans got to drive the Japanese Axio while the American reporters got to test out the European Toyota Auris.
Once the journalists got behind the wheel of the Auris, they immediately forgot that they were driving a hybrid because they were blown away by the vehicle's precise steering and impeccable ride quality. The Toyota Auris is built on the Corolla MC platform, with a few tweaks for the European market. It's incredible handling is due to the exclusion of the Corolla's beam-axle rear suspension and addition of a double wishbone suspension. This is what gives the hatchback such incredible handling and makes drivers feel as if they were in a FWD model.
Curious as to where Scion factors into all of this? The Scion xD and xB hatchbacks are already in their sixth year of production, signaling that a new model could be on the horizon, however there hasn't been much speculation when it comes to appropriate replacements. The Toyota Auris could be the ideal filler for this opening due to its ride quality, luxurious interior and stylish stance.
At R&H Toyota, we are excited to see what developments the Japanese automaker takes in producing the next new Scion model. Stay tuned to our blog for more updates!
