Toyota owners know that they can drive their vehicle with confidence thanks to the security provided by the Star Safety System, which comes standard on all new Toyota models. Not only is the Japanese automaker dedicated to keeping its drivers and passengers safe, they equally as committed to keeping those outside of vehicle safe on the roads.
Toyota is proving this with a brand-new piece of technology which will not just protect occupants inside a vehicle, but also outside by aiding in the avoidance of crashes and collisions with pedestrians, bikers, etc.
The Toyota Motor Corporation calls this innovative creation the Pre-collision System, or PCS, which uses Pedestrian-avoidance Steer Assist and an on-board sensor to detect obstacles in a vehicle's path. Once a hazard is sensed, the system fires off a series of warnings, in the form of a visual and audible alert, which intensifies the closer the impediment becomes. This should easily grab the driver's attention and prompt them to take preventive actions, but if not, the Steer Assist provides extra aid though its ability to activate automatic braking functions.
So just how effective is Toyota's Pre-collision system?
In the automaker's home nation of Japan, many Toyota models have been outfitted with the system, and results have shown that traffic-related fatalities have been consistently lower for the past 12 consecutive years.
Toyota plans to implement the PCS on new vehicles starting with the 2015 model year. To learn more about the safety features on vehicles in R&H Toyota's current new and used Toyota lineup, visit our Owings Mills, MD showroom today.
