It's been awhile since Toyota announced it would be expanding its Prius lineup, adding, among others, the 2012 Prius v. Until now, we knew next to nothing about the new hybrid minivan designed especially for on-the-go families. Now that we do, we can't wait to share all the juicy details.

Perfect for active families, the new 2012 Toyota Prius v seats five people. Thus its name" "v". But, while "v" officially (and befittingly) translates to five, it also unofficially stands for versatility. Thanks to a 60/40 split rear bench and fold-flat front passenger seat, the newest Prius offers four different seat configurations.

Another feature designed to appeal to growing families is the stain-resistant seat upholstery, which people will find very convenient.  Inspired by leather, it carries a distinctive fashionable edge.

In addition to plentiful room for passengers, the Toyota Prius v offers desirable cargo space. It's hard to believe, but behind the hatch lies approximately 34 cubic feet of storage space! According to Bob Carter, Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager, the Prius v has "more cargo space than 80% of small SUVs."1 This makes it perfect for toting anything from groceries to camping equipment to sports gear.

Perhaps most important of all, is the Prius v's superb fuel economy. With gas prices not getting any lower, the new Prius aims to help out your pocket.  Powered by a rear-wheel-drive system built around a 1.8-liter, 98-hp, four-cylinder mill, the forthcoming Toyota Prius v should burn approximately 5.35L/100km (1.41gal/62mi) on the highway and 5.88L/100km (1.55gal/62mi) in the city. Among the vehicles many other standard features and benefits are:

-          Seven standard airbags
-          Push-button start
-          Four Driving Modes: Normal, Power, Eco, and EV
-          Rear-view camera
-          Hands-free calling via Bluetooth
-          Six high-performance speakers
-          Recalibrated suspension
-          6.1-inch screen - fully integrates with iPhones, and serves to manage audio and video files and host Toyota's new infotainment system, Entune
