After much research, however, Cars.com discovered that it's not just the most "American" car when measured against other exports....The Toyota Camry is, in fact, more American than any "American-made" car available.
See, while Toyota is based in Japan, the Camry is actually built within the United States' borders, using a large percentage of domestic parts. It's also among the most popular cars purchased in America.
In determining the lineup of their American-Made Index, Cars.com adheres to a certain set of criteria (i.e., sales, assembly geo, and parts geo). They also disqualify models with foreign parts content above 15 percent, models built exclusively outside the U.S., or soon-to-be-discontinued models lacking an American-made successor.
According to Cars.com, the 2011 Toyota Camry has an average four-out-of-five star consumer rating. An enthusiastic reviewer from St. Louis, MO explains, "This is my second Camry XLE. I had a 2008 model, which I put 75,000 miles and gave it to my son. It rides like the day I bought it. I have changed oil and had factory maintenance done on it. I have never needed a wheel alignment. Nothing ever goes wrong. I now have a 2011 model...The ride is improved...Now has a backup camera...Stereo now has a USB and the sound is great.
