Japanese automaker, Toyota, has just released interim results from testing of the forthcoming 2012 Plug-In Hybrid Prius executed in the UK, in cooperation with EDF Energy. And, while the three-year assessment isn't yet finished, initial data from participating London-based organizations, offer substantial evidence that the Plug-In Hybrid Prius will be everything Toyota promised it would be and more.
Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Test Results At a Glance
- Average journey distance: 17.3 miles- Average recharge time: 1 hr. 12 min.
- Charge frequency: Businesses with access to a domestic charge point, recharged the Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius more often
- Fuel consumption: 27 percent better than an equivalent diesel
R & H Toyota would like to take a moment to focus on what is perhaps the most compelling bullet...the last. Twenty-seven percent better fuel economy compared to a similarly sized diesel is good, but it might be even better. This data is based on initial test results in London only. When reviewing pan-European results the findings are even more promising.
Analyses from the full European program demonstrate that the Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius actually delivers 36-percent better fuel economy compared to a best-in-class diesel of similar size. Just wait... it gets even better. Compared to a petrol-powered vehicle of the same size, efficiency jumps another 13 percent. This equates to 50 percent better fuel economy!
The response from participants has been wildly positive. Not that we're in the least surprised given the data. R & H Toyota definitely sees this being an ideal car for urban drivers who like to head out to the country on the weekends. For, when the 12.5-mile EV range runs out, the gasoline engine takes over seamlessly, offering owners extreme cost-savings for daily use and the freedom to go the distance when it strikes them.
